What is Total Home Transition™?
Total Home Transition™ refers to the two phase process (The Perfect Listing™ and The Perfect Move) we provide to guide homeowners as they prepare to sell one home and move to the next. While most people consider these to be two distinct events (selling and moving), we at Done in a Day understand these are two steps of the same continuous process. Our unique approach to the process helps homeowners save frustration, time and money.
Do I need a Home Transition Expert?
Maybe. Do you have the time and capacity to plan, manage, and execute the proper preparation of your house to sell at top dollar and also plan your move? Our clients are often busy professionals and families with hectic and competing schedules, who decide they need support during this overwhelming process regardless of whether they are downsizing, upsizing or making complicated moves involving multiple properties and locations.
Our comprehensive services save homeowners’ frustration, time and money, and go beyond the duties of a real estate agent and a traditional moving company. We are available for either phase of the process (selling or moving) if support of a complete transition is not necessary.
What is The Perfect Listing™?
The Perfect Listing™ is a house that sells for the most amount of money, in the least amount of time. We at Done in a Day have trademarked this term “The Perfect Listing<style=”color: #1c1c1c;”=””>™” because it is our mission to achieve this goal every time we work with a homeowner. </style=”color:>
Do you provide Interior Design services?
In the formal definition of the word, no. We are not accredited interior designers, however, we do provide space planning and organizational design services, both to prepare a house to sell, as well as to design a home to live.
We have experience working on over 2,000 projects and are well versed in solving design and space problems. We understand how color, scale, proportion, style, and layout all play into designing a successful home, and we can work with you to address your immediate needs.
Do you stage with your own inventory or mine?
We stage using purposeful selection of the homeowner’s existing furniture, accessories and art, and will typically supplement with new inexpensive linens, lamps, mirrors, and floral elements to complete a high end look to sell. Occasionally, we recommend larger, but important “impact” purchases such as rugs or furniture, immediately available at local retail stores.
How do I live in a staged home?
Carefully! A staged home is designed to photograph and tour. The set-up and level of cleanliness can seem incompatible with daily living especially with kids and/or pets, but you will prevail because buyers may request a showing at any time. You’ll WANT to be ready, and we will have left your house picture perfect. Your job is to keep it that way. Is it comfortable? Not really. Can it be done? Absolutely. Most of our clients do live in the house while it’s staged and on the market. You can, too!
What exactly gets Done in a Day?
A lot! Our home transition teams work so quickly and efficiently our clients are constantly amazed at how much can be accomplished in one day! The process of preparing your house for sale can take weeks or months if working alone. Done in a Day experts can easily tackle troublesome rooms like attics, basements, garages and playrooms in a single day. We provide the productive momentum – and extra hands – you and your family need to stay motivated, on task, and on schedule.
I’m not selling or moving, but I need help organizing and decluttering, do you do this?
Yes! We have many valued clients who come back to us again and again for help with smaller projects like decluttering, organizing, and space planning even when they are not preparing to sell or move. Many clients also schedule a deep clean in both September and January when the kids are back to school.
How much are your services?
The cost of our services can differ because every project and scope is different. Regardless of project and scope, our experts work on an hourly basis, and clients will be provided an estimate of projected hours. This straightforward, hourly estimate is appreciated by clients because they can easily consult their budget and have a good understanding of the project costs before commencing work. We can work within every budget and also help determine where time and money are best spent.
How is your process different than a typical home stager?
The home transition services we offer go above and beyond that of any typical home stager. Most staging companies will provide a consultation with recommendations, and help with decluttering, offer a quick tidy, and arrange furniture and accessories. Done in a Day services are comprehensive! Please see The Total Home Transition℠ process as detailed above.
I can’t tell what you’ve done in your photos. What did the BEFORE look like?
Out of respect for our clients’ privacy, we oftentimes do not take BEFORE photos. When we note on a photo on our website or social media platforms that we “staged” the house, that means we have completed the process as detailed above with sorting, disposing, packing, organizing, cleaning, and staging. We have touched every inch of that home!
Do you help homeowners sell their items online (Craigslist, Ebay, etc.)?
No. The time and energy needed to sell items online usually outweighs the financial return to our homeowners. We have found that homeowners benefit most from utilizing the services of auction houses and consignment shops, and we have trusted relationships with several in the DC area.
Do you itemize donation items for tax purposes?
No, though we will photograph items prior to packing and transporting them to the appropriate donation sites. The photos can assist the homeowner in completing the itemized donation receipts received in return for the donation. Valuation guidelines can be found online.
Are you a moving company?
No, although we partner with all major local moving companies and have long-term professional relationships with a few we can recommend. We will happily work with the moving company of your choice. We do have team members available to move furniture during the staging of the house, and who will deliver items set for disposal (storage, donations, dump).
I have a contract on my house but didn’t initially use your services? Would you still be able to help coordinate my move?
With pleasure! Homeowners can count on our services at any point during their home transition. We would need to schedule a quick consultation with you to understand the scope and schedule of your particular move then we can get jump in!
